Dukes jailed on battery charges

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., March 3 (UPI) -- Elijah Dukes, a former Tampa Bay Rays outfielder, was being held in jail without bail on charges of aggravated battery of a pregnant woman, officials said.

Dukes, 26, was also wanted on a warrant for contempt of court and driving with a suspended or revoked license, the St. Petersburg (Fla.) Times reported Thursday.

He has previously been arrested for contempt of court and failing to appear.

In 2010 Dukes, a Tampa native who also played for the Washington Nationals, owed three women a total of $143,000 in child support and alimony.
