MIAMI, March 2 (UPI) -- Veteran guard Mike Bibby signed with the Miami Heat Wednesday, two days after the Washington Wizards bought out his contract.
Terms of the deal weren't disclosed but Bibby gave up his entire $6 million 2011-12 salary to gain his release from the Wizards after being traded to Washington from Atlanta on Feb. 23.
The 13-year veteran scored two points and notched eight assists in just two games for the Wizards after averaging 9.1 points, 3.6 assists and 2.6 rebounds in 56 games with Atlanta.
"We want to welcome Mike Bibby as we continue to move into the direction of our championship dreams," Heat President Pat Riley said. "We feel Mike, with his vast post-season experience, long range game and point guard abilities, will give us a boost in the backcourt."
Bibby ranks fifth in assists (5,382) and ninth in 3-point field goals made (1,450) among active NBA players.
