Fourth-seed Goerges ousted at Monterrey

MONTERREY, Mexico, March 2 (UPI) -- Defending champion Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova of Russia advanced to the second round of the Monterrey Open women's tennis tournament Tuesday.

Pavlyuchenkova outlasted Eleni Daniilidou of Greece 6-2, 6-7 (5-7), 6-4.

Fellow Russian Ksenia Pervak upset fourth-seed Julia Goerges of Germany 6-1, 7-5 to advance to the second round.

Pervak prevailed despite six double faults and being victimized by four aces by Goerges. She won half of her second-serve points and saved 4-of-7 break points.

Fifth-seed Anastasja Sevastova of Latvia advanced with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Spanish qualifier Laura Pous Tio. Sixth-seed Sara Errani of Italy topped Sweden's Johanna Larsson 6-2, 6-4.
