SALT LAKE CITY, March 2 (UPI) -- The Utah Jazz have decided to keep interim head Coach Tyrone Corbin, giving him a multiyear contract, team officials said Wednesday.
Corbin took over the squad following the Feb. 10 resignation of longtime coach Jerry Sloan and the Jazz have going 1-6 since then.
Terms of the deal weren't announced.
Corbin became Sloan's assistant in the 2004-05 season, and before that spent a year as manager of player development for the New York Knicks.
"I am really excited about the opportunity to lead the Jazz, and to get to follow a legendary figure like Coach Sloan," Corbin said. "I am truly grateful that the Miller family has the confidence in me to allow me to lead this team into a new era."
"I am confident that Tyrone is the right man to lead this team into the future," Jazz chief executive Greg Miller said.
Utah, with a 32-29 record, is looking to claim the eighth and final Western Conference playoff spot.
