Brewers ink McGehee to 1-year contract

PHOENIX, March 2 (UPI) -- The Milwaukee Brewers and third baseman Casey McGehee have signed a one-year deal, the team announced Wednesday.

The Brewers had hoped to ink McGehee to a long-term deal but instead settled for a one-year contract.

McGehee had a breakout season last year, hitting .285 with 23 homers and a team-high 104 RBI in 157 games for the Brewers.

The former Chicago Cubs draft pick has put up a career batting average of .288 with 39 homers and 175 RBI over 282 games with Chicago and Milwaukee.
