BOSTON, March 1 (UPI) -- Veteran free-agent forward Troy Murphy will sign a contract with the Boston Celtics once he clears waivers, The Boston Globe reported Tuesday.
Citing an NBA source, the newspaper said a deal had been reached to bring the 30-year-old former New Jersey Net to the Celtics.
Murphy was dealt from the Nets to the Golden State Warriors last week but Golden State bought out his contract, making him a free agent.
Murphy played 18 games with New Jersey this season before being benched by Coach Avery Johnson.
He has posted averages of 11.8 points and 8.5 rebounds in his 11-year career. His best season came in 2004-05 with the Warriors, when he averaged 15.4 points with 10.8 rebounds per game.
The Globe said the Celtics were also trying too hard to land swingman Corey Brewer, who was released Tuesday by the New York Knicks.
