Henrik Zetterberg added a pair of helpers and Jimmy Howard, fresh off signing a two-year, $2.3 million contract extension, raised his record to an NHL-best 31-12-3 with a 35-save performance for the Central Division-leading Wings.

Brad Richardson notched a goal and an assist for the Kings, who remained in fifth place in the tightly-packed Western Conference playoff race despite the loss.

Dustin Brown and Wayne Simmonds also scored and Jonathan Quick was pulled in the third period after allowing six goals on 24 shots. Jonathan Bernier entered and yielded one marker on three shots for Los Angeles.
