WASHINGTON, Feb. 28 (UPI) -- The Washington Wizards have waived guard Mike Bibby after reaching a deal with him on a contract buyout, team officials said Monday.
Bibby came to Washington in a Feb. 23 trade that saw guard Kirk Hinrich go to the Atlanta Hawks, but the 12-year NBA veteran was unhappy with the deal that sent him to the 15-43 Wizards.
Bibby scored two points and had eight assists in two games with Washington.
"We agreed to terms with Mike on a buyout of his contract, which gives us increased financial flexibility and opens up more opportunities for us to continue to develop and evaluate our younger players," Wizards President Ernie Grunfeld said.
The 6-foot-2, 195-pound Bibby remained eligible for the playoffs because he was waived before March 1.
