NEW YORK, Feb. 27 (UPI) -- Vincent Lecavalier's third-period, power-play goal proved decisive Sunday in the Tampa Bay Lightning's 2-1 win over the New York Rangers.
The Lightning went on a 5-on-3 power play early in the final frame when the Rangers' Dan Girardi was whistled for boarding and Brian Boyle then drew a delay-of-game penalty by shooting the puck over the glass.
Lecavalier rifled home a one-timer from the left circle for the go-ahead goal and goalie Dwayne Roloson made several big saves down the stretch to lock up the win for the Southeast Division-leading Lightning.
Martin St. Louis also scored and Roloson turned aside 22-of-23 shots as Tampa Bay swept its four-game season's series with the Rangers.
Bradon Prust scored a shorthanded goal and Henrik Lundqvist made 17 saves for New York, which still holds the seventh playoff slot in the Eastern Conference.
