LOS ANGELES, Feb. 26 (UPI) -- Drew Doughty and Anze Kopitar each notched a goal and an assist for Los Angeles Saturday and the Kings hung on for a 4-3 win over Colorado.
Alec Martinez and Jarret Stoll also scored as the Kings built a 4-0 lead and then had to survive a three-goal, third-period rally by the Avalanche to take their fourth straight home win and strengthen their Western Conference playoff hopes.
Jonathan Quick had to make only 14 saves to record the win, but his misplay with the puck behind the net with 30 seconds remaining allowed Paul Stastny to pull the Avalanche to within a goal.
But Colorado would get no closer.
The victory gave the Kings 74 points, good for fifth place in the West and three more than Calgary, which holds the eighth and final playoff spot.
David Jones scored twice in the final period for the Avalanche, who lost for the 14th time in 16 games.
Brian Elliot stopped 38-of-42 shots for Colorado.
