LOS ANGELES, Feb. 25 (UPI) -- Drew Doughty put Los Angeles in front early in the third period Thursday and the Kings held on to defeat Minnesota 4-2.

A power-play goal by Brent Burns with just 5 seconds left in the middle period boosted the Wild into a 2-2 tie, but Minnesota could not answer Doughty's goal that came 4:39 into the third.

Anze Kopitar wrapped up the victory by scoring shorthanded into an empty net with 1:14 remaining.

Niklas Backstrom made 26 saves for Minnesota, which remained in a second-place tie with Calgary in the Northwest Division. The Wild and Flames are a massive 17 points behind division-leading Vancouver.
