ATLANTA, Feb. 25 (UPI) -- Steve Bernier scored in the sixth round of a shootout Friday, giving Florida a 2-1 victory over Atlanta.
Each side had scored once during the first five shootout rounds and Florida goaltender Tomas Vokoun stopped Evander Kane to start the sixth.
Bernier then flipped a shot past Chris Mason for the win, allowing the Panthers to close out their road trip with a 2-2 mark. Vokoun stopped 14 shots in the third period and made 45 for the game.
The only regulation goals came from Florida's Marty Reasoner in the first period and Atlanta's Blake Wheeler with 2:48 left in the second.
Atlanta's Ondrej Pavelec was replaced in goal after one period by Mason, who made 25 saves in relief. The Thrashers have lost five in a row and are only two points in front of the last-place Panthers in the Southeast Division.
