INDIANAPOLIS, Feb. 25 (UPI) -- Lovie Smith has agreed to a two-year contract extension with the Chicago Bears, keeping him with the NFL club through the 2013 season, the team said Friday.
Financial aspects of the agreement weren't released.
The new contract, announced during the NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis, adds to Smith's current deal, signed in 2007 and which has one year remaining.
Smith has the third most wins (66) of any Bears coach, behind George Halas (318) and Mike Ditka (112).
"I feel great about the extension," Smith said Friday. "I have the best job in the National Football League. I've said that every time I've been asked, and to get a chance to continue to coach here is special."
The Bears went 11-5 last season and won the NFC North for the third time in Smith's seven years as head coach. Chicago is 63-49 in regular-season games and 3-3 in the playoffs under Smith. The Bears advanced to Super Bowl XLI after the 2006 season, losing to the Indianapolis Colts 29-17.
