
ACAPULCO, Mexico, Feb. 24 (UPI) -- Anabel Medina Garrigues, enjoying her first successful tournament of the year, reached the semifinals Thursday at the Albierto Mexicano.
Medina Garrigues won the first set and was tied at 2-2 in the second when seventh-seeded Carla Suarez Navarro retired with an injury.
This is the fourth event of the year for Medina Garrigues and it is the first one in which she has advanced past the first round.
Her semifinal opponent will be fourth-seeded Gisela Dulko, who defeated Laura Pous-Tio 3-6, 7-5, 6-0. Dulko is the highest seeded player left in the tourney.
The other semifinal will send Johanna Larsson against Arantxa Parra Santonja. Larsson defeated third-seeded Greta Arn 6-1, 4-6, 6-2 and Parra Santonja was a 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 winner over Lourdes Dominguez Lino.
