HARTFORD, Conn., Feb. 24 (UPI) -- Darius Johnson-Odom scored nine of his 17 points in overtime Thursday in leading Marquette to a 74-67 victory over No. 15 Connecticut.
The Golden Eagles improved their hopes of reaching the NCAA tourney with their surprising road win over the Huskies, who played without Coach Jim Calhoun.
Johnson-Odom tied the score with 5 seconds left in regulation after Connecticut had rallied from an 11-point deficit at halftime.
Jimmy Butler added 16 points for Marquette and Dwight Buycks provided 13 points off the bench. Marquette (17-11, 8-7 Big East Conference) won its second straight.
Kemba Walker scored 27 points for Connecticut (20-7, 8-7), which has dropped two in a row and three out of five.
Calhoun missed the game due to the death of his sister-in-law. Earlier this week, the NCAA announced Calhoun would be suspended for the first three conference games next season due to recruiting violations regarding former student Nate Miles.
