DELRAY BEACH, Fla., Feb. 22 (UPI) -- Americans Sam Querrey and James Blake advanced to the second round with wins Monday at the Delray Beach International Tennis Championships.
Querrey advanced with a 6-3, 5-7, 6-3 win over Germany's Dustin Brown and goes on to meet the winner between Russian Igor Andreev and American qualifier Ryan Sweeting.
Joining him in the second round was fellow American James Blake, who defeated seventh-seeded German Benjamin Becker 7-5, 6-4.
Blake, ranked No. 144 in the world, has made the Delray Beach finals twice.
The news wasn't as good for two other U.S. players, however. Andy Roddick, who came into the tourney as the top seed, withdrew before the event with flu-like symptoms.
And No. 4 seed John Isner went down despite 21 aces, losing a long third-set tiebreak to Russian Teymuraz Gabashvili 6-4, 5-7, 7-6 (15-13).
Also logging wins Monday were France's Florent Serra and former Delray champion Ricardo Mello.
