BOGOTA, Feb. 17 (UPI) -- Julia Goerges and Polona Hercog, the event's Top 2 seeds, were both eliminated Thursday in the second round of the Copa Colsanitas in Bogota.
Han Xinyun, playing in her first tournament of the year, finished off a 5-7, 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) decision over the top-seeded Georges in a match that had been interrupted by rain on Wednesday. Showers have stopped play every day this week.
Han reached the quarterfinals for only the second time in four years of occasional play on the women's circuit.
No. 2 seed Hercog was ousted by Petra Martic 6-2, 6-3. Martic's only other appearance this year came at the Australian Open, where she advanced to the second round.
Han will next meet Carla Suarez Navarro, who at No. 5 is the highest seeded player left in the tournament. Navarro won her way into the quarterfinals on Wednesday.
Martic's quarterfinal opponent will be Laura Pous-Tio, who won over Nina Bratchikova 3-6, 6-2, 6-1.
No. 7 seed Lourdes Dominguez Lino also earned a quarterfinal bid by overwhelming Eva Birnerova 6-2, 6-2.
