Dennis Rodman faces California tax lien

DETROIT, Feb. 17 (UPI) -- California says former Detroit Pistons player Dennis Rodman owes more than $42,000 in delinquent taxes, a debt disputed by Rodman's business manager.

The $42,497 tax lien against Rodman was filed by the state with the Orange County Recorder of Deeds in May 2010, The Detroit News reported Thursday.

Rodman's business manager said she does not believe the lien is accurate.

"We just got a refund check from the state for $42,000 or $43,000," manager Peggy King said. "If you owed the money, you'd never get a check from them. They would have taken his money. It's got to be incorrect."

The Pistons say they will retire Rodman's number 10 jersey during a halftime ceremony on April 1.

Rodman helped the Pistons win two NBA titles back-to-back in 1989 and 1990 before going on to play for the San Antonio Spurs, the Los Angeles Lakers and the Chicago Bulls. The 6-foot-6-inch rebounder won three NBA championships with the Bulls.

Rodman is expected to learn later this week if he's a finalist for the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, the News reported.
