No. 3 seed Oudin bounced from Memphis

MEMPHIS, Feb. 16 (UPI) -- Third-seeded Melanie Oudin was bounced from the Cellular South Cup tennis event in an upset Wednesday, falling to Russian Evgeniya Rodina in straight sets.

The 19-year-old American dropped a 6-1, 7-5 decision to Rodina, who now advances to the quarterfinals on the indoor hard courts of The Racquet Club of Memphis.

Another seeded player, however, avoided an upset Wednesday. No. 6 Rebecca Marino of Canada had to battle, but she managed to down Romanian Sorana Cirstea 6-2, 4-6, 6-3.

Marino will now go on to play Coco Vandeweghe after the American handled fellow U.S. player Alexandra Stevenson 6-2, 6-2, in another second-round match.

Also Wednesday, Lucie Hradecka dispatched fellow Czech Sandra Zahlavova 6-4, 6-3, and Briton Heather Watson got by Frenchwoman Stephanie Foretz Gacon 6-2, 5-7, 6-4.
