CHICAGO, Feb. 16 (UPI) -- Chicago Coach Joel Quenneville has been hospitalized for an undisclosed illness and will miss the Blackhawks' game Wednesday, the NHL team said.

Blackhawks team physician Dr. Michael Terry said Quenneville suffered "severe discomfort" at his home Tuesday night and was admitted to a hospital Wednesday.

Terry said Quenneville is listed in stable condition but wouldn't say what the illness was other than it is "not of a cardiac nature." Quenneville is scheduled for additional tests.

Chicago, the defending Stanley Cup champion, is 28-22-6 this season but four points out of a playoff spot in the NHL Western Conference.

Blackhawks General Manager Stan Bowman said assistant coach Mike Haviland would handle head coaching duties for Chicago's game Wednesday against Minnesota.

"We certainly wish Joel a speedy recovery and we will do everything possible to support him and his family throughout the process," Bowman said.
