Kings' Cousins fined for teammate fight

SACRAMENTO, Feb. 14 (UPI) -- Sacramento Kings center DeMarcus Cousins has been fined for a locker room confrontation with a teammate, the team announced Monday.

Cousins was levied an undisclosed amount in the wake of a blowup after the Kings' close home loss to Oklahoma City Saturday.

The Sacramento Bee reported Cousins and teammate Donte' Green argued because Cousins was upset Greene didn't give him the ball for a last-second shot that could have won the game, instead feeding Tyreke Evans for the 3-point attempt, which missed.

Words were reportedly exchanged between the two players before they had to be separated.

"There is no place in the NBA for violence, either on or off the court," Kings President of Basketball Operations Geoff Petrie said. "Upon investigating the events of Saturday night, we feel it is necessary to impose a significant fine related to DeMarcus' behavior.

"We will now move forward together. We do not intend to give up on DeMarcus talent or potential."

Cousins expressed remorse in a statement.

"I wish to apologize to my teammates, the Kings organization and Kings' fans for my role in an unfortunate altercation between teammates," Cousins said.
