NHL: N.Y. Islanders 7, Buffalo 6 (OT)

BUFFALO, N.Y., Feb. 13 (UPI) -- Michael Grabner's third goal of the game came 2:55 in overtime Sunday and handed the New York Islanders a wild 7-6 win over Buffalo.

Kyle Okposo got control of the puck in his own end and sent a long pass ahead to Grabner, who eluded the defense and slipped a shot past Ryan Miller for the game-winner that completed his hat trick.

Grabner also scored in the first period and notched an unassisted tally early in the third.

The overtime clincher came after the Islanders stormed back from a 4-2 deficit to post a 6-5 lead in the third period, only to see Buffalo's Drew Stafford score with less than 7 minutes remaining to force overtime.

John Tavares and Milan Jurcina added a goal and an assist for the Islanders, who won their third straight game despite being hit with a raft of NHL penalties stemming from Friday's fight-filled win over Pittsburgh.

Mikko Koskinen started for New York but was pulled after allowing four goals on 14 shots. Al Montoya came in and stopped 12-of-14 the rest of the way.

Stafford also ended with a hat trick for the Sabres, who got 19 saves from Miller while dropping only their third game in 10 contests.
