The annual Grand Slam tournament has outgrown the 85-year-old Roland Garros. But instead of opting for a new stadium outside of the city, federation officials voted to expand the existing one, Radio France International reported.
Under plans backed by the city of Paris, Roland Garros would add a new court and expand into an adjacent city park.
Also part of the improvements will be a cover for the main court so it can used at night or during rain, RFI said.
Tennis federation officials said the move will help enshrine the uniqueness of the famous French venue.
