Points, Marino share Pebble Beach lead

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif., Feb. 10 (UPI) -- Steve Marino and D.A. Points both posted rounds of 7-under par Thursday to share the lead after the opening round of the Pebble Beach National Pro-Am.

Alex Cejka was at 6-under following a round that included a double-eagle on his opening hole of the day.

Play is conducted over the Pebble Beach Golf Links, Spyglass Hills Golf Course and the Monterey Peninsula Shore Course during the first three rounds before those making the cut conclude the event at Pebble Beach.

The Monterey Peninsula course is a par 70 and the other two are par 72 layouts.

Points, playing with comedian Bill Murray as his partner in the pro-am portion of the event, shot a 63 at Monterey Peninsula. Marino had a 65 at Spyglass.

Cejka, who has made the cut just once in four appearances this season, hit his second shot on the par-5, 545-yard 10th hole at Monterey Peninsula into the hole for the rare double-eagle.

"There were three or four marshals up there and they started screaming and suddenly it was in the hole," Cejka said. "It's the first one for me."

Two-time defending champion Dustin Johnson, three-time winner Phil Mickelson and Jim Furyk all played at Pebble Beach and all shot a 1-over 73. Firm greens caused conditions at Pebble Beach to resemble those found when a U.S. Open is played on the famed course.

Mark Wilson, who won his second tournament of the year last week in Arizona, had a 2-over 72 at Monterey Peninsula.

Tom Gillis and Gary Woodland, who lost in a playoff at the Bob Hope Classic last month, both were 5-under at Pebble Beach and they were tied for fourth place with Keegan Bradley.
