Chela, Kubot advance at Brazil Open

COSTA DO SAUIPE, Brazil, Feb. 9 (UPI) -- Juan Ignacio Chela of Argentina and Poland's Lukasz Kubot won their opening-round matches Tuesday and will meet in the second round of the Brazil Open.

The fifth-seeded Chela held off Brazilian qualifier Rogerio Dutra Da Silva 6-7 (4-7), 7-6 (7-4), 6-3, and Kubot outlasted Eduardo Schwank 6-7 (5-7), 7-5, 7-6 (7-2).

Chela lost only four points on serve and won two of three break points in the final set.

Other winners Tuesday included sixth-seed Tommy Robredo of Spain, who downed Fabio Fognini of Italy, and Potito Starace, who eliminated seventh-seeded Pablo Cuevas of Uruguay.
