NHL: Detroit 3, New York Rangers 2

DETROIT, Feb. 7 (UPI) -- Jiri Hudler and Drew Miller scored third-period goals Monday, sending the Detroit Red Wings to a 3-2 victory over the New York Rangers.

Hudler's goal 5 minutes into the final frame broke a 1-1 tie and Miller's tally with less than 6 minutes remaining gave Detroit the insurance goal it would need to rebound from two straight shutout losses.

Pavel Datsyuk also scored and Jimmy Howard turned aside 45-of-47 shots, including 17 in a frantic third period that saw the Rangers stage 5-on-3 and 6-on-4 power plays that failed to produce a score.

Derek Stepan and Brandon Dubinsky found the net and Martin Biron stopped 32-of-35 shots for the Rangers, who dropped their fifth straight.
