WASHINGTON, Feb. 6 (UPI) -- Michal Neuvirth logged his second career shutout Sunday, stopping all 22 shots in the Washington Capitals' 3-0 blanking of Pittsburgh.

Neuvirth turned aside a pair of Pittsburgh power plays and stopped 10 shots in the second period en route to the win, which upped his season's record to 15-6-4.

Brooks Laich scored in the first period, Marcus Johansson added a shorthanded goal in the middle frame and Mike Knuble added an empty-netter for the Capitals, who improved to 5-1-3 in their last nine games.

The Penguins, meanwhile, were without forward Evgeni Malkin -- likely lost for the year with torn knee ligaments -- and captain Sidney Crosby, who missed his 13th straight game with a concussion.

Marc-Andre Fleury allowed two goals on 23 shots for the Penguins, who saw their five-game winning streak snapped.
