BALTIMORE, Feb. 5 (UPI) -- Slugger Vladimir Guerrero has agreed to a one-year contract with the Baltimore Orioles, sources told The Baltimore Sun.
The Sun said Saturday the deal, reportedly for $8 million, would be finalized once the 36-year-old Texas free agent passes a physical next week.
Guerrero is being penciled in as the Orioles' designated hitter in the No. 4 spot in the batting order, which would likely move Luke Scott, last year's regular DH, to left field, the Sun said.
"We're all excited," said second baseman Brian Roberts. "A guy like that just changes the whole complexion of the lineup."
Guerrero brings solid hitting credentials to an Orioles lineup that has been overhauled in the off-season. A career .320 hitter, Guerrero sported a .300 average last season for the Rangers along with 29 home runs and 115 RBI.
