NBA: San Antonio 89, Los Angeles Lakers 88

LOS ANGELES, Feb. 4 (UPI) -- Antonio McDyess tipped in a missed shot an instant before the buzzer sounded Thursday, giving San the Antonio Sours an 89-88 win over the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Spurs failed on three consecutive shots in the same possession before McDyess jumped over the flatfooted Lamar Odom and tapped the ball into the basket. Game officials looked at a television replay before declaring the basket was good.

In a meeting of the Western Conference's top two teams, San Antonio had a four-point lead as the game neared its final minute. Odom, however, hit a 3-pointer and, after Richard Jefferson missed a shot for the Spurs, McDyess fouled Pau Gasol.

Gasol's two free throws with 23 seconds left gave the Lakers an 88-87 lead and the Spurs called time out to set up a final shot. Manu Ginobili then missed a 3-pointer and Tony Parker missed a layup attempt, but San Antonio claimed the rebound after both tries.

Tim Duncan tried a fadeaway jumper and it also missed, but McDyess was there for the winning tip.

Parker scored 21 to lead the Spurs, who played for the second time on their season-long, nine-game road trip. San Antonio has to endure a long trip at this time each season while one of the nation's largest rodeos takes place in its home arena.

Gasol made 8-of-10 shots from the field and scored 19. Kobe Bryant added 16 for the Lakers while making just 5-of-18 shots.

San Antonio improved the NBA's best record to 41-8 and has a 7 1/2-game lead over the Lakers for the No. 1 seed in the conference.
