Cilic among upsets at Zagreb Indoors

ZAGREB, Croatia, Feb. 4 (UPI) -- Two-time defending champion Marin Cilic was one of three top seeds defeated Friday in quarterfinal action of the Zagreb Indoors tennis tournament in Croatia.

Cilic, the No. 1 seed in addition to having won the last two Zagreb Indoors tournaments, was ousted by fifth-seeded Florian Mayer. Mayer was able to convert three of four break-point chances.

The tournament also lost its No. 2 and 4 seeds Friday. Fourth-seeded Richard Gasquet was down to No. 8-seeded Michael Berrer 5-2, 30-0 when he retired with a right shoulder injury.

Ivan Dodig eliminated second-seeded Ivan Ljubicic 6-4, 6-4. He had Ljubicic on the defensive much of the match, piling up nine break-point chances and cashing in one in each set.

No. 3-seeded Guillermo Garcia-Lopez advanced with a 6-2, 7-6 (8-6) win over Alex Bogomolov Jr. with a pair of breaks in each set.

Garcia-Lopez will go against Dodig in Saturday's semifinals in their first ATP-level meeting. Mayer won the only meeting with Berrer prior to Saturday's other semifinal pairing.
