HARTFORD, Conn., Feb. 2 (UPI) -- Three free throws during the final minute by Scoop Jardine Wednesday allowed No. 17 Syracuse to fight off seventh-ranked Connecticut 66-58.
The Orange halted a four-game losing streak and avoided what would have been the longest skid in the 35-year coaching career of Jim Boeheim.
Connecticut climbed within three points with 51 seconds to play when Jeremy Lamb made a layup. The Huskies, however, did not score again.
Jardine hit two foul shots with 41 seconds remaining and another one with 31 seconds left. Rick Jackson tipped in a shot for the Orange to account for the final score.
Brandon Triche led Syracuse (19-4, 6-4 Big East) with 16 points and Jackson had 13 points to go with 13 rebounds.
Lamb produced 22 points for Connecticut (17-4, 5-4). The Huskies were coming off a double-overtime loss to Louisville Saturday.
The recent Syracuse struggles came after the Orange had won their first 18 games of the season.
