NEW ORLEANS, Feb. 1 (UPI) -- Jason Smith was 9-of-11 from the field en route to 20 points Tuesday and the New Orleans Hornets handed Washington its 25th straight road loss, 97-89.

Smith's 20 points were a career high and came in only 25 minutes of playing time. Trevor Ariza added 16 points for the Hornets, who returned home from a West Coast trip to break a two-game losing streak.

Chris Paul chipped in with 15 points, nine assists and five rebounds for New Orleans.

Nick Young led Washington with 30 points as the Wizards moved closer to the NBA record for most consecutive road losses to start a season -- 29, set by the Dallas Mavericks in the 1992-93 season.
