Steelers' Pouncey has broken ankle bone

PITTSBURGH, Jan. 28 (UPI) -- The Pittsburgh Steelers said center Maurkice Pouncey, who was previously said to have a high ankle sprain, has a broken bone in his ankle.

Team sources said Pouncey, who was injured during the AFC championship game against the New York Jets, isn't being ruled out for Super Bowl XLV Feb. 6 against the Green Bay Packers, but his ankle is encased in a cast and he is walking with crutches, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported Friday.

Steelers Coach Mike Tomlin and Pouncey said after the AFC championship game the center had suffered a high ankle sprain. Further examinations revealed a broken bone in his ankle.

Doug Legursky replaced Pouncey at center during the AFC game and the Post-Gazette said he is likely to start at the position for the Super Bowl.
