ATLANTA, Jan. 26 (UPI) -- Ondrej Pavelec made 36 saves in recording his third shutout of the season Wednesday, bringing the Atlanta Thrashers a 1-0 victory over Washington.

The workhorse Atlanta goaltender, who has appeared in 38 of his team's 52 games this season, has five shutouts in his four-year career. He is just four appearances short of his total for all of last season.

Atlanta's lone goal came from Nik Antropov midway through the second period.

The Thrashers won for just the second time in nine games and headed into the all-star break clinging to the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

Semyon Varlamov took the loss, making 23 saves.
