NHL: Tampa Bay 7, Atlanta 1

TAMPA, Fla., Jan. 23 (UPI) -- Simon Gagne scored twice and the Tampa Bay Lightning exploded for five second-period goals Sunday in their 7-1 dismantling of Atlanta.

Martin St. Louis and Pavel Kubina each notched a goal and an assist, and Dwayne Roloson turned aside 21-of-22 shots for the Bolts, who won their 11th straight over the Thrashers in the first contest of a 12-game homestand.

Steven Stamkos notched his league-leading 38th goal and the Southeast Division-leading Lightning also got tallies from Nate Thompson and Dana Tyrell as well as three assists from Teddy Purcell.

Rich Peverley scored for Atlanta, which has given up 36 goals in its last seven games.

Ondrej Pavelec yielded three goals on 19 shots before Peter Mannino entered and allowed four more on 20 shots for the Thrashers.
