LAS VEGAS, Jan. 20 (UPI) -- Officials of the International Tennis Hall of Fame announced Thursday Andre Agassi had been selected as the organization's newest member.

Agassi, 40, won 60 tournaments during a 20-year career.

The announcement was made at Agassi Prep, a charter school that Agassi founded in Las Vegas 10 years ago.

"I'm truly honored to be recognized alongside the greatest players of tennis," Agassi said. "My tennis career afforded me the opportunity to make a difference in other people's lives and it was truly special to share this exciting moment with the students of Agassi Prep."

Agassi was the only person selected this year in the Recent Player Category. He will be inducted July 9 at the Hall of Fame in Newport, R.I.

Agassi won the career Grand Slam, capturing the Australian Open four times, the U.S. Open twice and the French Open and Wimbledon once each. He was ranked No. 1 in the world for 101 weeks and, at age 33, became the oldest player to lead the rankings.

In 2009, Agassi admitted in his autobiography that he used methamphetamines in the late 1990s. He is married to Steffi Graf, who has been in the International Tennis Hall of Fame since 2001.
