NHL: Tampa Bay 3, Columbus 2 (SO)

TAMPA, Fla., Jan. 18 (UPI) -- Ryan Malone's wrist shot past Mathieu Garon in a shootout Tuesday handed the Tampa Bay Lightning a 3-2 victory over Columbus.

The tiebreaker had advanced to the fourth round when Malone's shot to Garon's glove side found the net and Dwayne Roloson preserved the Bolts' advantage with a stop on Columbus' Antoine Vermette, securing the victory.

Steven Stamkos struck for a pair of regulation-time goals -- his league leading 34th and 35th tallies -- and Roloson turned aside 28 shots for Tampa Bay, which vaulted over Washington into first place in the Southeast Division.

Columbus got scores from R.J. Umberger and Derick Brassard and 20 saves from Garon.
