BUFFALO, N.Y., Jan. 18 (UPI) -- Jason Pominville's power-play goal early in overtime Tuesday enabled the Buffalo Sabres to break a four-game skid against Montreal with a 2-1 win.
With Scott Gomez off on a high-sticking penalty called with 43 seconds remaining in regulation, Thomas Vanek skated past the Montreal net and threaded a pass between two defenders' legs to Pominville.
The Buffalo right winger was alone in the left circle and blasted the puck into an open net, handing Buffalo its second win in three games and ending the Sabres' frustrations against their Northeast Division rivals.
Tyler Ennis scored and Ryan Miller made 29 saves for the victors.
David Desharnais got Montreal's only goal and Carey Price let in two goals on 39 shots as the Habs fell to 6-1-2 in their last nine games.
