NHL: Boston 3, Carolina 2

RALEIGH, N.C., Jan. 18 (UPI) -- Milan Lucic connected on a tiebreaking power-play goal in the third period Tuesday that boosted the Boston Bruins to a 3-2 victory over Carolina.

With Chad LaRose off on an elbowing penalty, Lucic found the net on a snap shot off assists from Mark Recchi and Steve Kampfer 11:49 into the final period, providing the winning margin.

Tim Thomas made the lead hold up, stopping 43-of-45 shots in leading Boston to its fifth win in six contests.

Johnny Boychuk and Brad Marchand also scored for the Bruins.

LaRose and Jussi Jokinen scored and Cam Ward allowed three goals on 28 shot for the Hurricanes, who lost both ends of a home-and-home series with Boston.
