CLEVELAND, Jan. 18 (UPI) -- Mike Hargrove has been hired as a special adviser by the Cleveland Indians, a team he once played for and managed, the American League club said Tuesday.
Hargrove's duties for the coming season will include helping the coaching staff in spring training and joining the team's broadcast crew occasionally.
Hargrove managed the Indians from 1991-1999, producing two AL titles and five division championships. He had a 721-591 record, placing him second in franchise history for most wins behind Lou Boudreau's 728.
He also played seven of his 12 big-league seasons with the Indians.
"I am very excited about the opportunity to once again be a Cleveland Indian and am very much looking forward to helping any way that I can," said Hargrove."
