CHICAGO, Jan. 15 (UPI) -- Catcher Geovany Soto has avoided arbitration by signing a one-year contract with the Chicago Cubs, the team announced Saturday.

Soto, who won the 2008 National League Rookie of the Year award, is set to make $3 million in 2011, MLB.com reported.

Soto hit .280 with 17 home runs and 53 RBI in 105 games last season, rebounding from a poor 2009 that saw him bat only .218 in 102 games.

The Puerto Rico native has amassed 54 homers and 196 RBI over 378 career games with the Cubs.
