CHICAGO, Jan. 12 (UPI) -- Police in the Chicago suburbs said sportscaster Mike Adamle, a former running back for the Chicago Bears, is facing drunken driving charges.

Evanston Police said Adamle, 61, of Evanston was pulled over about 1 a.m. Monday for allegedly failing to observe a flashing red stoplight while driving in his 2002 BMW and was subjected to field sobriety tests, the Evanston Review reported Wednesday.

Adamle was taken to the police station on a driving under the influence charge and was transferred to Evanston Hospital for a drug screening when he displayed "erratic behavior," the Chicago Tribune reported.

Adamle has worked in recent years as a sportscaster for WMAQ-TV after a string of similar positions. He also hosted "American Gladiators" on TV from 1989 to 1994.
