PHILADELPHIA, Jan. 12 (UPI) -- Former NBA star Allen Iverson will return to the United States from Turkey to have surgery on his right leg, NBC-Philadelphia reported Wednesday.

The report said Iverson did not plan to announce his retirement. Instead, he will have surgery to remove a painful lesion from the leg.

Iverson has been playing this season in the Turkish Basketball League because no team in the NBA offered him a contract. He signed a two-year, $4 million deal with the Besiktas team.

Iverson has also suffered from an injured right ankle that has reduced his playing time this season.
