NHL: Pittsburgh 5, Montreal 2

MONTREAL, Jan. 12 (UPI) -- Jordan Staal put Pittsburgh in front with 11 seconds left in the middle period Wednesday and the Penguins produced four power-play goals to down Montreal 5-2.

Pittsburgh ended a three-game losing streak and won without superstar Sidney Crosby, who continues to miss time due to a concussion.

Montreal had a 2-1 lead early in the second period but the Penguins produced the final four goals of the game -- all of them coming with the man advantage.

Staal, playing in only his sixth game after he had missed most of the season with an injured hand, scored his first goal of the campaign to give the Penguins a 3-2 lead.

Alex Goligoski and Kris Letang added third-period goals to build the advantage. Goligoski also scored in the first period and Staal had two assists.

Marc Andre-Fleury stopped 20 shots to get the win.

Carey Price allowed all five goals on 36 shots in Montreal's first loss in four games.

Pittsburgh climbed within one point of idle Philadelphia for the best record in the Eastern Conference.
