Report: Rocky Long new SDSU football coach

SAN DIEGO, Jan. 11 (UPI) -- San Diego State University will name defensive coordinator Rocky Long as new head football coach, media reports in San Diego said.

Long would replace Brady Hoke, who was hired for the top job at Michigan Tuesday.

The San Diego Union-Tribune and KGTV-TV, San Diego, said the announcement would be made Wednesday.

Long was defensive coordinator for the Aztecs for two seasons. Prior to his stint in San Diego, Long was head coach at New Mexico for 11 years.

Long joined Hoke's staff at the same time as offensive coordinator Al Borges, who will join Hoke at Michigan. Hoke, a former Michigan assistant who went on to be head coach of Ball State, replaced the embattled Rich Rodriguez.

Long will be reunited with Hoke and Borges Sept. 24 when San Diego State faces the Wolverines at the Big House in Ann Arbor.
