BATON ROUGE, La., Jan. 11 (UPI) -- Louisiana State announced Tuesday football Coach Les Miles, who had been considering moving to Michigan, is staying at LSU.

LSU Athletic Director Joe Alleva issued a statement that said he was "please to announce that Les Miles will remain the head coach at LSU."

Miles, a Michigan alumnus, had spoken with officials at Michigan about replacing Rich Rodriguez, who was fired last week. Rodriguez had been the coach at Michigan for three seasons during which the Wolverines went a combined 15-22, including 0-6 against arch-rivals Ohio State and Michigan State.

Miles, 57, has been at Louisiana State for six seasons, building a 62-17 record. The Tigers won the Bowl Championship Series title after the 2007 season. He previously was the head coach at Oklahoma State for four seasons, going 28-21.

He was also a candidate for the Michigan job when Lloyd Carr retired after the 2007 season. The Wolverines hired Rodriguez after a report, denied by Miles and LSU, that Miles was taking the Michigan position.
