WASHINGTON, Jan. 8 (UPI) -- Mike Green and Alex Ovechkin scored third-period goals Saturday and the Washington Capitals hung on for a 3-2 victory over Florida.

Green's tally on a power play with 7 minutes left in the game broke a 1-1 tie and Ovechkin's tally 3 minutes later gave Washington a decisive two-goal cushion.

Green, Eric Fehr and Ovechkin each notched a goal and an assist for the Capitals, who logged their fourth win in five games.

Semyon Varlamov made 25 shots in the victory.

Mike Santorelli and Evgeny Dadonov scored for the Panthers and Scott Clemmensen made 24 saves in Florida's third straight loss.
