NHL: Chicago 3, Ottawa 2 (SO)

CHICAGO, Jan. 7 (UPI) -- Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane scored the only shootout goals Friday to bring the Chicago Blackhawks a 3-2 victory over Ottawa.

They produced their scores in the opening two rounds, allowing the Blackhawks to come away with a win for just the second time in six games.

Corey Crawford stopped the only two attempts he saw in the shootout after making 24 saves in regulation and overtime.

Kane scored 7:50 into the third period to give Chicago a 2-1 lead but Milan Michalek tied it with 1:25 to go in regulation.

Ottawa's Daniel Alfredsson opened the scoring with a power-play goal 49 seconds into the middle period and Patrick Sharp answered for the Blackhawks less than 4 minutes later.

It was the 24th goal of the season for Sharp, who is third in the league behind Pittsburgh's Sidney Crosby (32) and Tampa Bay's Steven Stamkos (31).

The loss went to Brian Elliott, who had 24 saves. It was Ottawa's fourth straight setback.
