SAN JOSE, Calif., Jan. 7 (UPI) -- A 36-save performance by Ryan Miller Thursday lifted the Buffalo Sabres to a 3-0 blanking of San Jose.

It was the third shutout of the season for Miller and the 20th of his eight-year career, all of it spent with the Sabres. His career-best, single-season shutout total is five.

Luke Adam and Jochen Hecht scored in the first period and Thomas Vanek added a power-play goal early in the second, his 16th score of the season.

The Sharks were held without a goal for the sixth time this year and for the second time in six games. San Jose has dropped two straight.

Antero Niittymaki allowed all three goals on 22 shots.
