NEWARK, N.J., Jan. 6 (UPI) -- Scott Hartnell tied the score at 18:54 of the second period Thursday and Danny Briere scored twice in the third to give Philadelphia a 4-2 win over New Jersey.
New Jersey lost for the ninth time in 10 games and remained stuck on 10 victories for the season, fewest in the NHL.
The Devils played without captain Jamie Langenbrunner, who was a healthy scratch. Various reports prior to the contest indicated Langenbrunner had waived the no-trade clause in his contract and that New Jersey was attempting to work a deal for the 16-year veteran winger.
Hartnell tipped in a shot for his second goal of the game to create a 2-2 tie and Briere gave the Flyers the lead 2:48 into the third. Briere then produced his 20th goal of the season with 8:26 to go. Ville Leino had three assists for Philadelphia.
Brian Boucher got the win with 18 saves. He is 9-4-2 for the season.
Johan Hedberg allowed all four Philadelphia goals on 20 shots.
